Cascade
What Is It
The Cascade is one of Yerevan's most iconic landmarks — a giant stairway of white limestone opened in the 1980s and still being expanded. Over decades it has become the city's living room — people gather here to exercise, stroll, and watch the sunset.
Inside the Cascade complex is the Cafesjian Museum — an open-air and indoor modern art museum with monumental sculptures lining the terraces and galleries within.
At the bottom, Tamanyan Square has become one of the city's most popular meeting points, with contemporary sculptures under the open sky, art cafés, restaurants and galleries surrounding the area. The whole complex has grown more vibrant and diverse over the years.
If it is your first time in Yerevan, the Cascade is one of the best places to start — in the morning it is quieter and perfect for walking all the way up, while in the evening the combination of people sitting on the steps, live music and city lights captures a lot of what makes Yerevan feel alive.
