Old Khot — Abandoned Village
What Is It
Old Khot is a village abandoned in the early 20th century, preserving the ruins of 19th-century red tuff stone houses along a gorge trail near Tatev Monastery.
The new village was rebuilt nearby, but the old section remains beautifully untouched — ideal for off-the-beaten-path exploration and atmospheric photography, especially in autumn or winter.
Reaching Old Khot takes some effort, but the reward is powerful — narrow paths wind between collapsed walls, doorways open onto nothing but air, and every turn reveals another angle of the gorge and the village clinging to its cliffs.
If you love hidden, slightly wild places with real stories etched into the stones, Old Khot is a must-visit stop in the Tatev area.
What to Do
Walk the gorge trail, explore the stone ruins, combine the visit with the Tatev gorge area and Goris town, and photograph the layered mountain and gorge scenery.
How to Get There
About 15 km from Tatev and 25 km from Goris by car along a mountain road.
